History

The Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics consists of academic, non-academic and technical staff members with expertise in Clinical pharmacology, Ethnopharmacology, Toxicology, Neuropharmacology, Endocrinology, Pharmacokinetics, Molecular Pharmacology, Malaria Chemotherapy, Stem Cell technology and Cell Culture techniques.  These skills have been employed in various academic programmes domiciled in the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, such as the MB; BS program; bachelor’s degree in nursing, anatomy, physiology, physiotherapy, medical laboratory sciences (MLS). The department is also involved in the teaching of undergraduate Optometry and Pharmacy students. Postgraduate programs in Pharmacology are also domiciled in the department.

The Department is committed to the University’s mission of teaching, learning, research and community development services in the field of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. It is aimed at producing men and women who are well-trained in all facets of both basic and clinical pharmacology, with the main purpose of meeting national and international needs in raising pharmacologists and researchers who are equipped in various life impacting research such as drug discovery and safety evaluation and assessment.
